The Tourism Minister for the Canaries, Rita Martín, has said that although the current economic crisis hasn't affected tourism in the Canaries up to now, there is uncertainty over the situation as far as 2009 is concerned. Sra Martín said that while advertising budgets grew 7% over the last year, in 2009 money will be directed much more to the renovation of touristic infrastructures, even though the economic climate could well mean that these restorations would be "realistic" and "responsible", even "austere".
So far this year, there have been 75,000 more international tourists than during the same period in 2007, with the British market remaining stable, and the German market keeping within reasonable levels.
... maybe they're getting the idea ... ??
