Woman stabbed by her husband in El Médano is gravely ill in hospital

A 47-year-old woman is gravely ill after being stabbed several times by her husband/partner in El Médano. As soon as I find out more specific details I'll post, of course, but for the moment, the man's initials are S.O.L., and he is under arrest by the Guardia Civil. Witnesses say he tried to commit suicide after his attack on his wife.

The emergency services received the call at 10.30 last night and they immediately sent an ambulance and the Guardia Civil to the spot. The woman was given emergency treatment before being taken to Hospitén Sur, where she is in a serious condition.

The couple are German, and she received seven stab wounds, the worst of which was in the chest area. He has a neck injury from his attempted suicide, and is now under arrest on the charge of attempted murder. It appears that the attack was made under the influence of alcohol, and he did not resist arrest.

The woman has now been transferred from Hospitén Sur to Candelaria Hospital. Her husband is also there, under arrest, for his neck wound.

Sadly we were watching the football in the bar close to where she staggered towards the beach for help, and saw all of this happen. They closed off the two bars and police guarded the crime scene all night.

It was shocking to see, the poor woman was in a very bad way.

So do I, I dont think I will ever forget the look on her face, fortunately my youngest was in the bar and never saw a thing, but my eldest did. I wont go into detail out of respect for the lady but it was horrific.

I really do hope that she pulls through, we havent stopped thinking about her.

Today's press reports that there were fears for her life yesterday, though she is now stable, but gravely ill. She was stabbed seven times, the most serious being in the chest and the stomach.

Her husband is also still in the same hospital, though under arrest for her attempted murder. He will be taken to court as soon as he is released from hospital.

They are amazed as to how far she staggered to get help, she walked one hell of a way considering she had been stabbed 7 times. One brave lady. All my respect to her and my sincere hope that she recovers

Latest reports in the press say that the woman has received surgery and is progressing favourably. She is still in Candelaria hospital under police protection.

Her husband/attacker was released from medical supervision on Friday, and is in Police custody.

Um - why is she under police protection if hubby is banged up? Or is this a lack of faith in their prison security?

Not sure, but think there are just "officers in attendance" ... she's been gravely ill, so maybe they're still waiting for her to be able to give a statement ...
