Fixed radar cameras in operation in Tenerife from Saturday 8 November 2008

Fixed radar cameras will be in operation in Tenerife from tomorrow morning. They are already being tested, but if you see the flashes, don't worry, this is just a testing period. From 8am tomorrow morning, however, they are en serio.

In Tenerife, they will be placed on the TF1 at the Caletillas bend (km 13,850 direction Santa Cruz) and near the TFS airport (km 59,271 direction Adeje). On the TF5, they will be at El Sauzal bend (km 20,662 direction Puerto de la Cruz) and at Guamasa (km 15,009 direction Santa Cruz).

but i thought there'd been some for a while? one of them on the way towards los cristianos just after the airport exit...

Yes, but they've been in a test period. From tomorrow, they are "in operation". You'll get fined from now on.

ok. i saw the airport one flash at me once when i was well below the speed limit, so was kind of surprised... that explains it all.

Must admit these speed cameras have me baffled. I have seen the one at Caletillas and the one by the Airport. Outwardly they appear to be single carrageway cameras The same as you see on most roads in the UK. But here they are on a three lane motorway?. I can only assume that they are zeroed in on one particular carrageway of the three available. It would make sense for that lane to be the fast lane. However when traffic is heavy the speeding cars plates could be obscured by traffic nearest to the camera, or completely covered by a slow moving lorry? As I say baffled
