The Tenerife Cabildo has said that the second TFS terminal is an "absolute priority", and that "procedures" to initialise works will begin in 2011 ... not the works themselves, you know, just the "tramites". Apparently this is essential for tourism, especially now, so it's good to see they have their usual sense of urgency .....
There was a meeting in Madrid on Friday between the Tenerife Cabildo minister of tourism, José Manuel Bermúdez, with the director of AENA, Javier Marín, and the director of AENA in the Canaries, Juan José Álvarez. The AENA directors have said that they have two priorities for Tenerife: the second TFS terminal and plans for Los Rodeos which they should be able to unveil shortly.
With regard to the new terminal, José Manuel Bermúdez indicated that an investment of 400 million Euros would be required, and that processes to put the project in motion would begin in 2011.
The tourism minister said that the new terminal "is compatible with a second runway which the island cannot do without". Sr Bermúdez insisted that he was trying to minimise the environmental impact of airports, but the island needed a certain quality of touristic infrastructure.
