Man's body recovered from barranco near Eagle Park in Arona

A man's body was recovered this afternoon by Mountain Rescue and Guardia Civil services from the barranco del Guirre in Arona. He had been declared missing two days earlier by his girlfriend. The search and rescue operation was most difficult given the instability of the terrain and the almost vertical nature of the barranco, the whole operation lasting from 3.30 to 6.10pm. He was examined on level ground near Eagle Park, fairly close to the Barranco, and was pronounced dead at the scene. At this point, foul play is not being suspected.

These outlying regions are perilous once one gets away from main roads, I think ... which is why I think walkers should always go in groups with someone who knows what they're doing, like Cyberhiker.

How awful. I was up there around this time yesterday and saw police in the distance, presumably attending to this incident.
