National Police confirm the seizure of 2,452 kilos of hash and 1.5 of cocaine in two operations in which 23 people have been arrested in Melilla, Madrid and Tenerife. These were connected with police operations Espada and Luna.
Specifically, in
operation Luna, 19 people were arrested and 1,330 kilos of hash and 1.5 of cocaine were seized, and in operation Espada, 4 people were arrested and 1,212 kilos of hash were seized.
Police confirm that among the arrestees are the heads of the particular drugs rings which had been the subject of the surveillance and capture operations, and which had commenced in October 2007. On 27 March this year, one early result in operation Luna was the seizure of 530 kilos of hash in a cave behind a traditional Canarian house in Tenerife, and two people were arrested at the time.
On 8 July, 1,500 grams of extremely high-grade cocaine were seized: it's not clear where, but the three arrested were from Venezuela, Adeje and Madrid.
10 September, 800 kilos of hash was seized on the coast of Añaza in north Tenerife; those arrested were from Melilla (north africa Spanish territory), Morocco, and Spain.
16 September, the head of the drugs ring which was the subject of Operation Luna was arrested in Playa San Juan, Tenerife. Three other people were also arrested in the raid, two Spaniards, one French.
Operation Luna terminated with the arrest of a further three people in Melilla.
Operation Espada began on 6 November, and was organised on the basis of intelligence about a huge drugs drop in Abades ... so that was part of this pair of operations!
In that seizure, as I posted separately, a zodiac carrying 1,200 kilos of hash divided into 35 packs were being unloaded by an individual who, when aware of the police presence, drove at them at full speed in his all-terrain vehicle. The individual offered considerable resistance to arrest, and police were obliged to shoot his wheels out to stop him.
This individual has been identified as Aziz C.H., a Moroccan, and subsequent actions in this operation have yielded a further 12 kilos of hash, and three further arrests, one of whom is Mohammed A.A., natural of Melilla, and considered to be the principal organiser in Tenerife of this drugs ring.
Details remain a bit patchy on all these because obviously the prosecutions are ongoing, but what results!
