Teachers' Union demands the removal of religious symbols from Canarian schools
Been featuring rather heavily on the TV news today ... the Teachers' Union has asked the education authorities to remove all religious symbols from all education centres and all public buildings in the Canaries.
The Union has been referring to a similar instance in Valladolid, where a school has been forced by the courts to withdraw religious symbols from its classrooms and from its communal space.
The organisation which forced it through the courts there was Europa Laica (Secular Europe), and it has agreed to participate in the campaign here, as well as anywhere else in Spain, in order to get religious symbolism out of public spaces to guarantee liberty of conscience and thought, both of which are guaranteed in the Constitution.

This is a very powerfull point..I take it that you did mean the wearing of these garments inside a school...I suppose it will come down to how "Religious Symbols" are to be defined in schools.
In France the Christian Cross and the Star of David are banned from schools.
To me this type of thing helps to drive a wedge between different religions actually coming together and being more tolerant and understanding of each other... when you consider that history is littered with problems brought about by different religions in some way clashing... it makes you think..can these different religions ever be tolerant of each other.

I don't think religious symbols should be banned ....... it is RELIGION itself that should be banned! It's the cause of more problems and unrest than it is worth!
Christmas shouldn't be banned though! Cos it's fab!
