Default Police rescue a 90-year-old woman from the bed where her children had kept her in filth and neglect for a year

A 90-year old woman has been released from a filthy bed where she was kept by her family. She had been there about a year, and the bed was full of urine and excrement because they’d never cleaned her. Finally, however, La Laguna Policía Local managed to release the widow, identified as Mercedes F.P., whose three sons and two daughters kept her shut up for a year in their house in C/. San José, San Matías, La Laguna.

Neighbours had finally begun to realize what was happening when they heard the old lady’s shouts and mercifully informed the police. When they first arrived at the house they couldn’t believe their eyes, because the woman was in a filthy soiled bed and had clearly not been washed in a year. She had been fed on nothing but bread and milk, it appears.

The police are currently investigating the family for possible charges of neglect. It seems at this moment that the full care devolved on just one of the five children, a son, whose defence is that his mother didn’t want to leave the room and just wanted to eat bread and milk.

She was removed by ambulance to HUC (Hospital Universitario de Canarias), where she remains under observation.

How absolutely awful I'm just speachless. Of course we don't know the history of this family and perphas it was some kind of pay back for the way she may of treated them in the past but how come nobody missed her, did she have no freinds

...and did she wish to lie in her own filth for a year??? What a rubbish defence, hope they throw the book at them all.
