Default Dialysis patients in Candelaria Hospital transferred after the ceiling of the unit collapsed

Last Wednesday, patients in the dialysis unit in HUNSC Candelaria Hospital had to be transferred out of the department after plumbing pipes broke causing an inundation which resulted in the collapse of the unit's false ceiling. A nurse was injured in the collapse requiring emergency treatment. All dialysis treatments were still carried out.

The unit should reopen later today, but there is no definite time given. Until the ceiling is fixed, dialysis patients will still receive their treatments, but in other parts of the hospital.

The Dialysis Unit should be ready to reopen tomorrow after being closed all weekend due to the accident on Wednesday in which the ceiling collapsed through water damage after pipes broke. The temporary closure has meant that ten patients have needed to continue their treatment at other medical centres, while 25 were treated in different units of the hospital itself.

The Unit is now just waiting for technical staff to finalise the report confirming that everything is in order for it to reopen. The hospital reassures anyone who might be concerned that at no point has any patient's treatment been adversely affected by the events.

The Unit is now functioning normally again, with the technical report now finished, and the re-opening fully approved. The patients who received their treatment elsewhere have now returned to the Dialysis Unit.
