Default Official Government report says that burglaries have risen over the last two months as a result of the economic crisis

I knew this would happen ...

The number of robberies has increased since September in Tenerife and throughout Spain as a result of the economic crisis. This is the official verdict of the Government, which says that the situation has been foreseen for the last two months, and that the robberies are often motivated by a simple need for money to live, or "first necessity".

The report says that no specific place is affected but that all areas of Spain are experiencing the same thing, except in tiny villages where everyone knows everyone else.

The typical profile of these thieves is unemployed young men who are stealing money directly to eat, or items to sell to raise money.

The Government has increased the number of Civil Security units of the National Police and has reinforced Guardia Civil patrols in recognition of the situation. Police also request that individuals who have suffered burglaries should inform the police because they are taken seriously.
