Default Failed again ... just cannot watch King Lear to the end

We have tried several times now, but it's unmitigated misery. Has anyone else watched it? Successfully?

It's the BBC's one, from their Shakespeare productions, with Michael Hordern as Lear, and Brenda Blethyn as Cordelia. Talk about nutters

Slightly Off Topic But........

I'm watching the second season of The Tudors at the moment,
about Henry VIII.

The only thing is Henry VIII is portrayed as an extremely hunky guy...makes wonderful watching!

I thought that would have been easy peasy for you Janet?

I'm afraid school put me firmly off Shakespeare.

Nah, and there's a distinct lack of "hunky guys" too

I like some Shakespeare, but some is unwatchable (and just as unreadable). Some I'd even say is rubbish ... to me. I guess you can't expect that all the work of one person, even a genius, is of a consistent level, but for goodness sake, Lear is supposed to be a masterpiece. Well, I just don't get it.

Give me Twelfth Night any day ... no pun intended

Eww King Lear - grim stuff if I remember. Isn't that the one about the nutter that disowns a daughter (Cordelia?) and then teams up with another nutter Gloucester?

They all die in the end I think. Have seen it and read it years ago,but only because I had to!

Agree Janet, give me "Night" and day of the week. Quite like Merchant of Venice too
