Default Unelco Endesa

I can't speak to other areas but in the Los Gigantes/ Puerto Santiago area Unelco are having a purge on older properties (20 years) whose wiring and fuse boxes are unsafe and who are still being supplied 1,2kW which should be upgraded to at least 5,28kW.

Letters are being sent but in some cases the tangle of bills in old owners names/ post restante postal addresses for absentee owners etc etc is so complicated that current owners do not receive them, resulting in meter's are being removed and supplies cut off.

Historically "advisers" told new owners not to bother changing the contracts into their own names because a "Buletín" would have to be done and that was expensive - poor advice as they did not explain the safety issues nor give prospective buysers the chance to negotiate on the purchase price to include upgrading!

Check that you are receiving your bills, that they are propery addressed and if you are the owner of the place where the Electricity is supplied - the contract is in your name and above all that your wiring is safe!

They harassed us (Pal Mar) justifiably because we were not earthed.

we had a guy from them coming around as well because they noticed we were not being charged enough for the electrical supply we have set up in our house, so hooray, now we get charged more.

it does really annoy me, though, when the bills are not in the current owner's name. i receive most of my clients' bills here and once or twice we've had to get duplicates of bills, and it was a nightmare because the current contract owner was not the person whose name appeared on the bill.

new rant: got the latest bills today. it's the same on all of them:

"equipos de medida: 1 meses x 0.54 eur = 0.55" !!!

i am NOT a tight person and a cent doesn't really have much value to me but they're making thousands of extra € that way!! i am starting to believe they're worse than telefonica!

ARGH!

the latest unelco story -
i look after a holiday let, the electricity was cut off last week on thursday. i phoned unelco and explained that the owner was in the UK and didn't speak any english, could they at least tell me what bill had not been paid, so i could tell the owner. they told me it was the bill from june 12 (no notification received). to make things more complicated, the bills are still in the previous owner's name (estate agent never bothered to change the paperwork) but the bank details are correct.
i phoned the owner's daughter and explained everything. she got in touch with their bank here to find out why the bill had not been paid through their direct debit and the person at the bank told her it was because the name on the bill didn't match the bank account holder's name (?? they'd been paying the bill like that for years!). i told her to get in touch with unelco and ask for somebody to speak to in english, pay the bill via credit card and change the contract into her father's name. she phoned and was told that because of the changes the whole company is undergoing, they couldn't do anything, could she please phone back in 2 days. she tried and didn't get through, so asked me to please phone. she doesn't speak spanish. the newest "welcome" message on the number says that they have changed phone numbers (for the 2nd time in over a week - the number on june's bills didn't work when i tried last week, either). i spoke to somebody and explained the situation and was told that because of the system changes they couldn't work with their computers, so couldn't look up any bills, so i could either phone back on monday or go to the nearest unelco office. grr! i looked for the phone number of the los cristianos office, couldn't find it, so phoned unelco again and spoke to somebody else who told me that there was no point in going to the los cristianos office this week because their system was not working, either, and that really, there was no way to pay this outstanding bill (which he claimed couldn't be june's, as we would have received a notification - i assume it's an outstanding one from march when the daughter didn't bother to contact unelco although i'd told her!) this week and we could try again on monday!!! i find this unbelievable - they're quite happy to leave an apartment without electricity for 1.5 weeks even though you want to pay it!!!!!! is there anywhere where you can complain about this? fortunately, nobody is in the apartment anymore (but people were in till monday!!!!) but the next guests are arriving on wednesday. i was reassured that if the bill was paid on monday, it would be back either on the same day or on tuesday... i'm not holding my breath!
why is it that so many spanish companies have such stupid policies where you have to wait to sort out urgent matters???????
