Default Cancer survivors and obtaining travel insurance.

My wife Margaret was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in November 2007 and has been having chemotherapy treatment over the past 3 months and is now receiving a course of Radiotherapy treatment which is due to complete at the end of this week.

We have seen her consultant Onclogist today and she sees no reason why we cant travel again after the 4 - 6 weeks recuperation period from the effects of the Radiotherapy.

The result of the treatment so far have been "significant" with a huge reduction in the tumor mass. We will not know the overall effect until the CAT scan at the end of the recuperation but the specialist is optomistic of further improvement given the results so far.

My question is ...has anybody else had dealings with specialist travel insurance firms who will offer specific cover for Cancer survivors ?

We are aware of some firms that do specialise in this sort of cover but would prefer some personal recommendations if possible

I do know this is extremely difficult and costly. I was in this situation for family member who wanted to travel. In the end he just got on the plane and went! it would be interesting to hear what you find.

Kind Regards.

Will be happy to pass on any info.

Off to see our bank manager later. We have an annual cover policy with them but of course now need to declare this exisitng condition. I intend to ask if they would provide any specific cover for the condition.

Hi Peejay.

Firstly can I say what great news it is to hear that your Wife is responding well and secondly that I am sure I can speak for us all on here in wishing not only your Wife but you also the very best wishes for your future together.

I have been fortunate not to have suffered at the hands of Cancer but have
and have had an incurable disease for a long time. I can still get insurance cover but not for my pre-existing condition.

If you can find out details of the Lung Cancer Patients Support Group, of which I am sure there will be somewhere near to you, they normally have lots of information and recommendations to pass on.

I wish you many, many happy holidays together.

You probably have already contacted Macmillan, if not they are here

They maybe able to point you both in the right direction regarding insurance, they have nothing to gain from their recommendations too.

They are the most wonderful, helpful people for support, information or just a chat, for people & their families with Cancer.

Hope this helps

From the MacMillan Forum have been refered to this site.

I intend to ring tomorrow for a quote to see what costs are involved.

Spoke to Insure Cancer today and they are happy to provide travel insurance for Margaret

They will need her consultant to confirm the diagnosis and that she is fit to travel.

The cover will cost around £200 for a 2-3 week trip

That's brilliant news, as is her progress. Look forward to seeing you both
