Some of my favourite places to visit are ....

Garachico ..... a lovely spanish town, once destroyed by an eruption has been rebuilt and the sea swimming pools are constructed ut of the natural lava flows, lovely little fort there and fab tapas bars.

Masca is tenerife's hidden secret. Although it was affected by the recent forest fires, it is still breathtaking. A small village with lots of eating places in a very deep valley.

Arico Make a Picnic and go up to the Picnic Area in Upper Arico. It's a beautiful place with Pine Trees and natural flowers.

Monte Mercedes overlooks La Laguna and is a fantastic piece of countryside in the North of the Island, good fish Restaurants there and plenty of coastline to discover.

Punto del Teno is close to Buena Vista. There are signs warning you not to approach on Bad Weather Days, or windy days. I have visited there half a dozen times now. There is a lighthouse and a fantastic view of Masca from the Punto del Teno. The tunnel to this area is cut through the mountain.

Mount Teide
is ofcourse a spectacular sight, but there is nothing like it at night. Go up there on a night when the sky is cloud free and there is no moon. The sky is spectacular when you turn of your car lights. It is 1,000 times better than a planetarium. You can see Planets and galaxy clusters. We stayed up there for over an hour looking at the heavens, a truly magnificent sight.

i would suggest an Island Day Trip. it takes you over most of the Island with stop offs on the way well worth a try.

Having done the dolphin trip from Los Gigantes (better than the Cristianos ones I thought!), does anyone know the jetty they pick up walkers from on the way back after the swim........It is Masca or is that just something I heard somewhere......Think people get dropped off to walk down to it and ferry back to Los Gigantes but not certain.

Anyone help?

This is a wonderful area, with a network of little roads ... you would never guess you were in Tenerife, it's so green and lush. This really is a must do.

Difficult one this.... But IMO,

Don't do the tourist things! Take that advice of the people in the know, and get into the real Tenerife - It's really not just about the booze cruise mentality!

If you're wondering what I mean, just check out this forum!

Yes, it is Masca Bay. There are trips from Los Gigantes which get there about 12:30/1 pm and pick up walkers. The trip from LG is 3 hours and includes snorkelling equipment and paella lunch. We've done it several times and have never failed to see whales/dolphins. I don't recall the name of the boat but it's the first offering on the way down to the harbour. I'll be able to tell you in October as we've got some leaflets in our apartment.

Yes you are right a lot of boats stop off at Masca Bay. You can take a boat from Los G t Masca and then walk UP the Barranco to Masca village and get a cab back to Los G. Or, you can do it the other way round. However the walk up or down the Barranco is not for inferm or unfit (or both) or people who only have a pair of flip flops!
