This is a very nice man made beach. It was enlarged in 1973 with the addition of golden yellow sand that was imported from the antique Spanish province of Sahara. Some 4 million sacks of sand were brought in.
There are always some activities like beach volley, aerobics, etc. Facilities are quite good and there are some bars and simple restaurants. There are plenty of palm trees providing shade for the most sensitive on this wide beach, 1.5 km long.
This is the most popular beach on the island and we understand why. It offers the best!
For the perfect, crescent-shaped natural yellow sand beach, cleaned every morning, and with safe swimming for children; try Playa Grande beach, on the way to the lighthouse by Poris del Abona

it's a very spectacular beach, well worth a visit. One of my other favourites is La Tejita, the other side of Montaña Rojo or Red Rock. We lived near it for a while and it has the most laid back and great atmosphere. I really miss it, but still not too far for a visit.

On the TF1 heading towards Santa Cruz, take the exit marked Poris del Abona. It´s easy to see - it´s the one with loads of wind turbines nearby, and a fishing boat displayed near the exit.
Then, follow the road through and past Poris town towards the lighthouse, at the west of the bay.
Playa Grande will be easily visible on your left.
You won´t regret a visit. Last time we had sunseeker guests, they raved about it!
