nobody has mentioned yet that you can stay on teide over night. there's a small hotel, the refugio, which costs 20€/person. you end up sharing your room with lots of people, so it's more of a hostel really but it has been refurbished and, unlike in the past, has now electricity, warm water, heating, and they provide linen etc. you have to bring your own water and food, though.
my friends went last weekend to watch the sunrise, and they said they were lucky the moon was there to guide them to the top at 5 a.m. because a torch would have not been enough for them to see the path going all the way to the top. i imagine it must be an incredible experience... but it's nothing for me. they said it was absolutely freezing up there...

Could also stay in the Parador if someone really wanted to stay up there .... the hotel is actually part of the visitor centre, in the middle of the crater, near Los Roques.

true. the refugio will only appeal to those who want to see the sun rise from the peak. funnily enough, a friend of mine who went years ago said that while she was there (refugio), she felt ill all night from the lack of oxygen, yet my friends now had no problems at all, as the dizziness and feeling unwell passed after 10 mins.

We want to take the children tomorrow. Is there a number to call to find out if the cable car is running/weather conditions are ok?

I can't take my little dog... can I??

I can't remember seeing a sign saying no animals, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was one after all. I don't think it's good terrain for a small dog at the top, though.

Well I have given them a call but a stressed out sounding man has asked me to call at 9 am tomorrow.

Our dog seems to like all kinds of terrain, and always up for a challenge. She also seems to think that every time we step out the door she has to come too

Well, if you aren't allowed to take her up in the cable car, someone can always stay down below with her
