Default Should we forget about visiting Teidi?

For one reason or another, me and SWMBO have never got around to visiting Mount Teidi.

This year we were considering giving it a try but we have some concerns with our respective medical conditions.

I have read on this forum that they will not take anyone on the cable car who has any heart or blood pressure problems so that rules that out for both of us. SWMBO can't do hills very well either. She gets short of breath.

So how close can we get to it? Can we go so far? Can some of the old hands give me some idea?

Janet's stargazing trip will be ok, cos we will be going in cars but i'd also like to visit it during the day. I just don't know if it is feasible.

YOU HAVE TO GO, despite not having been to the top, we go 'up Teide' everytime were out.

The drive up is spectacular, the differences in the scenery as you climb up is to behold, its all amazing.

Please, do yourself a favour, just do it - YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Michael, you go into the crater, drive right through, and on to the visitor centre, scramble around some rocks ... all the time gazing up at the cone, which is the last bit that the cable car goes up. That's the bit people with heart conditions are advised to avoid, not the crater, which is overwhelmingly flat.

I repeat Hopper ... YOU HAVE TO GO! You won't be disappointed. You'll get some fantastic photos, have a coffee and cake or more in the visitor centre, buy a souvenir in the visitor centre shop, have a look around the museum if it's re-opened by then, maybe drive through to the lizard park at the far side of the crater ... and after all that, the scenery is simply staggering.

There is not reckoned to be any danger at that altitude, though people can feel slightly light-headed. The important thing is to do things slowly ... but this will be no different to star-gazing night. It's a complete optical illusion, but when one's in the crater (at about 2,000m), the cone just looks a few hundred metres higher. It's actually almost one-HALF of the entire height of the island higher from the crater to the top of the cone (3,700m just about). It's all just so vast that one's brain can't process it.

Take some bread for the lizards

I have never been to the top, I am sure its even more spectacular, but where we get to in the car is good enough for us and we always have a cup of tea at our top in the visitors centre

Michael I have to repeat what the others have said. You must go. I've been many times and never gone up in the cabel car yet. I never tire of going up there and am going tomorrow in fact.

I agree the roads are excellent. First time my driving has been described like that. Usually words like scary and fear are used
