i'm afraid i don't understand, janet. you mean it's not on even ground? true. it's up and down all the time and trust me, i am by no means fit and on the way up i was gasping for breath a lot, lol, but it was well worth it and i felt a lot fitter on the way back. i loved the last third on the way there, walking along the ravine - beautiful scenery!

you know where otello's in adeje is? the starting point is right above otello's. you walk along the hills 2/3 of the way till the mountains meet, then you walk along the ravine which lead you to a dead end where there's a lovely waterfall (so you walk the same way back). it's a 6.5km round hike and can be done in about 4 hours (we took 3.5).
it costs 3€, which they charge for maintenance of the paths, and you need to bring water. there are no toilet facilities, which is a bit of a bummer, and the path can be both even and, mostly, rocky and uneven, so good shoes are essential (i saw several people walking in crocs and really felt for them).

I live in Adeje and have visited the Barranco on a number of occasions. It is a fair old trek, but if you are healthy it is well worth the visit. One of the little hidden secrets of Tenerife.

Thanks! I had the impression that one started up by Otello's and ended up by the motorway ... or vice versa (hence my question about going up or down )

hi Janet ..... it does go up and down but not down to the motorway, the footpath gets steep in one particular place. But there's no rush to get there and back.
