Angry European Health Card changes for residents

Has anyone else read this in the 'Canarian Weekly' front page of latest edition,
about the rules changing from 1st April 2008 for British Nationals who permanently reside in Spain including the Canary Islands will have to present the Spanish equivalent of an European Health Card (EHIC) if they require medical treatment whilst visiting the UK?

Does that mean ex pats are to get back from the UK government, what they have paid into the NHS via NI contributions & a proportion of tax back too, so we can make a decent provision in our new homeland then, along with our exsisting payments we make already?

Here
once you are in the social security system here in spain, you have to go to the social security office though and apply the "tarjeta sanitaria europea" there. when on a temporal contract, you get issued a paper which is valid for three months, once on a permanent contract you can apply for the actual plastic card.

Princess, can I suggest merging into yours so that it ends up in Visiting Tenerife? It's more likely to be found there by casual browsers.

Default Spanish Health Card (Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea)

I've just noticed that my Tarjeta Sanitaria expired om May 9.

Can I get another one in Granadilla and if so what paperwork do I need to take with me or will the esisting card be enough?
