Default Help need with warnings at work?

My friend had a fall out with one of her work colleagues this was the end of April. Exactly four weeks later (28 days) she was called into her bosses office and asked about the incident. She was told to write down what had happened. She did this. She is now going on her holidays. She has been called into the bosses office again 11 days after initially being called in and told that both her and her colleague are getting a written warning and she will have to sign for in when she returns to work in another seven days. Does anyone know anything about warnings at work. Personally I think when 28 days has passed between the incident and being called into the bosses office is too long.

I always thought you got a verbal, followed by a written, followed by a final and then the sack. You could get sacked straight away foregoing the 3 strikes thing for gross misconduct.
I think it would depend on the circumstances aswell. Did the fall out impact on buisness, were customers in ear shot, was any pushing or shoving involved, was any defamation of charachter used, was the bosses involved, were any rules in their contracts breached... the list can go on and on. Without the whole story its hard to give proper advice but I know the 3 stepa at the start of this post is the procedure used by most companies that have proper procedures and contracts etc in use....
Hope that helps a little bit

Step 1, she should ask for a copy of the company's disiplinary procedure and see if what they're doing is permissable.

The receptionist had an afternoon off. My work colleague was passed the phone to answer. At her alloted break time she went outside for five minutes for a cigarette. A male colleague was left to answer the phone. Upon her return the male colleague verbally abused her for not doing her job. A large argument then took place. There were no clients in the office, infact only two other members of staff were present. It took the male colleague three weeks to report the incident. Obviously he was making sure that my friend had not reported him first.

In this case I think macs advice is the best you are going to get. Get a copy of the disciplinary procedures and read up on it....
As they seem to be the only 2 involved couldnt they just apologise, regardless
of who is at fault, in the interests of keeping thir company records clean???

That would have been the best option, but now it has been brought before the boss he wants them both to be warned. At the time after the fall out they were civil to each other. Why the guy went to the boss is a mystery
