doesn't she have to have been paying into the system for 3 months before she gets the full entitlement to social health care?

no, i think you're confusing that with being entitled to receiving "dole money". we've had this somewhere before and was it goldenmaniac who could answer this well? but i am sure once you have a social security no. you can make use of the health system. that's what a doctor once explained to me.

I had it in my head that to receive healthcare you had to have been in the system 3 months and dole or "paro" 6 months.... I'm probably wrong though as I can't remember where I got that from

Nova, are you thinking of the rule that applies to healthcare in the UK for those who've been away more than 3 months??

Anyway, have a read of Goldie's post HERE ... there doesn't seem to be any time delay in entitlement to medical care on the Spanish health system.

No as soon as someone has "alta" ie have a contract registered if they are an employee or who has set them selves up as self employed properly with the social security they are eligable to receive health care.

In reality I have found that its best to wait until at leat one social security payment has been paid as this flags up on the computers.

But in any case if you are really in need you can obtain medical cover for

personas sin recursos (people with out means) see full post here Who is entitled to Spanish National Health cover and how can I apply?
