In the UK you wouldn't have to get out of bed and a lot don't because they are paid by our taxes to stay in bed!

Yes so true and what makes me mad is that even though I live here I'm still paying for them in the UK

Sad but very very true...........................

Ditto. And what I love about this place is that if I want to claim from the state because I can't be bothered to work.................I can't!! The UK should watch and learn.

I think a degree (at a general level) means that the person has the ability to focus and apply themselves to acheive certain things. Its a good start but this is far from what i would class as a good employee - other things like honesty, sense of humour, ability to get on with co-workers, solve problems rather than create them, I could go on but won't......................

It is very important for people to be satisifed in their jobs with a fair reward and level of happiness as this directly relates to their output wether it be a service they are delivering or a product they are making.

Not really directly relevant for forum users, I suppose, but this article claims that rates of pay for qualified staff in the Canaries (the example being in the medical profession) are much higher than other areas of Spain. This is because the salaries are determined by each region, with no national rates of pay.
It would be interesting to find out whether this trend is also the case for other areas of work. Whilst hourly rates are low compared with the UK, perhaps thay are not bad compared with mainland Spain.

Do the Canary Islands have their own tax system? I heard somewhere that they do. If so, how does that work?

I thought you had said that you were born here and wanted to return. Don't you know how your own Country operates?

OK. Tax is not something you normally have to think about when you are 2.
