Default Voluntary Work

Are there any voluntary organisations in Tenerife who would be able to use an english speaking person?

Probably something based in a particular location to make travel easier and where the volunteer could set their own hours.

And before someone posts....no I don't want to come and work in your bar / shop / what ever for no pay

Cheers.

Decided I need to qualify this a bit more...
Got a friend who doesn't really want a "job" but wants to do something to occupy their spare time a little which may be of benefit to the community / island. Would probably help in a charity shop or something in the UK, but not seen any opportunities here yet.

that's a shame - i wouldn't mind a cleaner who works for nothing... but you said you didn't want to do that; maybe your friend would like to? j/k good luck with finding something. i am sure places like k9 or so would always appreciate an extra pair of hands!

I'd already suggested K9 or the likes, but they aren't a great animal person. They are more people based.

What about the charity shop in Silencio,im sure they must need help, perhaps if they had more helpers, they could open longer hours.

Just thinking outside of the box, as long as they dont 'hate' animals one of the animal charities could probably appreciate someone to help with Fundraising events and sponsorship - if they are a people person this might be right up their street.

I would be happy to have a chat with them if they want, just PM me if they are interested.

I know that Live Arico were looking for help with the Sunday car boot sales at Guaza, and certainly other 'people based' fund-raising events. Good idea Angus!

Maybe one of the English residential care homes have volunteers that go in to help with recreational activities? There was mention of a care home in Katy Kennedy's article in The Paper today. I think she was referring to "Tenerife Nursing and Care" sorry if I'm wrong I only glanced through the paper briefly
Anyhow there is a website for them here

Voluntary work should always work both ways to be truly successful. I was involved in a project in Scotland for years and loved every minute of it. It should be something that the volunteer really enjoys and doesn't see as an obligation. That way it becomes a win win situation.

Just my 2 pennerth

Sorry, but to me, doing voluntary work for a business that exists to make profit is not providing anything other than free labour for the business. Now if it was a charity run day centre or something then fair enough, but if the nursing home you mention is looking for voluntary help then it's probably only because they can save money on employing the correct staff and hence make more profit from their charges.

Me a cynic? Never!
